The Magnificence of Flight
Michael Osborne is an established artist living in Canterbury.
Specialising in Landscapes as well as Aviation Art, Michael is able to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
He has art works that can be found in National and International private collections and galleries.
Born in Gore, he attended East Gore Primary School and then onto Gore High School, where he studied art for many years under the guidance of the well known art teacher Geoffrey Hughes.
Michael gained his love of aircraft while he was learning to fly at the Southern Districts Aero Club, at Charlton, from 1974 while he was still at high school.
He decided not to follow a full time career in art or aviation initially, but he has spent time as a commercial pilot and for the past 20 years farming in Canterbury as well as managing his financial services & health & safety company, Countrywide Group.
It was while Michael was learning to fly that he joined his abilities of flying and art together when was asked by other pilots, Bill Dowden, Brian Casey & Dave Renton, if he could paint their top dressing aircraft.
Michael has completed more than 300 aircraft paintings in the 40 years since then. In recent times he has been working on larger paintings that include A4 Skyhawks, Spitfires and Lancaster Bombers.
The landscape paintings Michael has painted are also now found in many homes and galleries as far away as the UK, Australia and locally.
Michael first exhibition was in 1978 and he has had many since, the most recent was at Terrace Downs, a golf resort west of Christchurch.
He has been a guest artist at many exhibitions and has also donated paintings to worthy causes to help raise funds for charities.
