Our small team of librarians is dedicated to providing exciting library collections, an appealing place to visit, and helpful, friendly service. Do ask for assistance or advice as we are here to help you make the most of your library.

Children's term-time programmes

The Gore and Mataura libraries offer weekly Wriggle & Rhyme sessions for babies and up to 2 year olds, and weekly Toddler Time for 2 to 5 year olds during the school term.

Children's holiday programmes

During the school holidays the Gore and Mataura libraries offer craft activity sessions and reading programmes for school age children. Contact us to register and for further details.

Author talks, events and displays

The libraries hold various adult and children’s events throughout the year so look out for in-house advertising for what might be coming up.


Black and coloured copying (coloured available at Gore only) is available on a self-serve basis. Charges apply.

Inter-library loan service

If you want a book we do not have, we may be able to borrow it from another New Zealand library for you. There is a minimum $5 charge for this service.

Housebound service

Books, magazines and talking books are delivered to housebound readers including people in rest homes. This service is for people who do not have someone to choose and collect books for them.

Out of district members

Our reciprocal agreement with the other Southland and Otago public libraries means we can offer free Gore Library membership for residents of Southland and Otago. Gore residents are able to join other public libraries in Southland and Otago free of charge as well.
