ShakeOut 2015

Everyone, everywhere should know the right action to take before, during and after an earthquake. All of New Zealand is prone to earthquakes. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes – at home, at work, at school, or on holiday.

The Gore District Council is encouraging everyone in the District to sign up for this year's ShakeOut. New Zealand ShakeOut has been created to help people and organisations get better prepared for major earthquakes, and practise 'Drop, Cover and Hold' - the right action to take during an earthquake.

New Zealand ShakeOut also provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses, workplaces, and other organisations to examine and review their own emergency preparedness arrangements. Families and households can create, review and practise their household plans.

To find out more go to the ShakeOut website.

Emergency Management Southland is the organisation in charge when there is a civil defence emergency in Southland.

It is a stand-alone entity working on behalf of the province's local authorities - the Gore District Council, Southland District Council, Invercargill City Council and Environment Southland.FPhotosEMS Logo

EMS has an Emergency Management Office and an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) located behind Environment Southland's offices, on the corner of Price Street and North Road, Invercargill.

While EMS is there in times of emergency, it is up to everyone to be prepared. Emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and storms can strike at any time, sometimes without warning. So it is vital that you prepare now to protect yourself, your family, home, business and community.
