Representation review for 2019 Local Body Elections

The Council wants public feedback on a proposal to combine the Waimumu-Kaiwera Ward and the Waikaka Ward into one new rural ward for the 2019 local body elections.

The proposal would see the new combined ward represented by two councillors. This means there would be no change to the number of councillors elected from these areas, as presently there is one councillor from each ward.

Submissions will be accepted until Friday 1 December. These must be in writing and will be made publicly available. You can send your submissions to info@goredc.govt.nz, hand deliver them to the Council's main office at 29 Bowler Avenue or post them to P O Box 8, Gore 9740.

The creation of the new ward was proposed by the Council when it carried out its six-yearly representation review.

At present the Council is made up of

  • The Mayor and three councillors who are elected district-wide
  • Five councillors elected from the Gore ward
  • One councillor elected from the Mataura ward, the Kaiwera-Waimumu ward, and the Waikaka ward

There is also the five-member Mataura Community Board.
