Local body elections are held every three years.

The next local body election will be held on Saturday 12 October 2019.

Key dates

Subject to the final determination of any current representation reviews, elections will be held for:

Gore District Council 

1 Mayor
3 councillors elected at large
5 councillors to represent the Gore Ward
1 councillor to represent the Kaiwera/Waimumu Ward
1 councillor to represent the Mataura Ward
1 councillor to represent the Waikaka Ward
5 members to represent the Mataura Community Board

 

Mataura Licensing Trust

1 member to represent the Tapanui Ward 
3 members to represent the Gore Ward
1 member to represent the Mataura Ward 
1 member to represent the Rural Ward
1 member to represent the Edendale Ward
1 member to represent the Wyndham Ward 
1 member to represent the Tokanui Ward 

 

Southland Regional Council (Environment Southland)

2 members to represent the Eastern-Dome Constituency

4 members to represent the Gore Ward
1 member to represent the Clutha Ward

From 17 July - Elections will be advertised and nominations called
19 July - Nominations open
16 August - Nominations close at midday
20 September - Voter packs mailed to electors. Voting opens
12 October - Voting closes at midday. Progress result asap thereafter
By 17 October - Official result released
From 17 October - Official result advertised

 

A candidate handbook for the 2019 election will be prepared and made available on our website by 31 May 2019. Nomination forms will be available in early July 2019.

If you are enrolled as a parliamentary elector you will automatically be placed on the Council’s electoral roll as a residential elector. If you need to enrol or update existing name or address details on the parliamentary electoral roll, you can do so at any Post Shop, online at www.elections.org.nz or by phoning 0800 36 76 56.

If you pay rates on property within the council area but live outside that area you may be eligible to enrol as a ratepayer elector. A copy of the ratepayer enrolment form can be downloaded here [PDF, 79 KB].
