Information

The Gore District Council has a capital value-based rating system. This means the value of your property is used to calculate the percentage you pay for certain activities. It is not used to calculated your total rates.

There are two types of rates - a general rate and a targeted rate. This table shows how much of a property's total rate is valuation-based and how much is fixed.

When to pay

The Council allows you to spread out payment of your rates over four instalments. For 2016/17 the due dates are:

  • 26 August 2016
  • 25 November 2016
  • 24 February 2017
  • 26 May 2017

You will be sent an invoice before each instalment is due as a reminder.

How to pay

The Council offers various options to make it as easy as possible for you to pay your rates. The preferred option is direct debit. This allows you to chose how often you want to make a payment (weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc) and ensures you don’t miss a payment.

If you want to pay via internet banking the Council’s account is 03-0915-0289519-01. Please make sure you include the Assessment number in the reference field.

You can  pay by credit card; pay by cash, cheque or eftpos at the Civic Centre in Bowler Avenue, or the Mataura Service Centre, in McQueen Avenue; or post your payment to the Gore District Council, PO Box 8, Gore 9740. Credit card payments can be made by phoning the Council 03 2090330. There is a 2.88% surcharge for all credit card payments.

Non-payment of rates

Unfortunately, bills get overlooked sometimes. If you do not pay your rates by the date each instalment is due, there will be a 10% penalty. A further 10% penalty is added to any unpaid rates on 1 July, following the due date. An additional 10% will be incurred every six months thereafter.
