Gore is also one of the few towns to still use its original Kerridge Odeon movie theatre. The SBS St James Theatre has been extensively refurbished over the years and has two auditoriums for screening movies. It is also the main venue for stage shows and hosts everything from the New Zealand Royal Ballet to local primary school productions. For more information go to the SBS St James Theatre website.
For those looking for some outdoor pursuits, there is plenty to do throughout the District. This includes the privately run outdoor adventure park, Camp Columba. This is situated 15km north of Gore, just off State Highway 1 in Pukerau. It has accommodation facilities and adventure activities to cater for groups from 10-180 people.
A Christian camp, Camp Columba was opened in 1957 as the permanent home for the Mataura District Bible Class Easter Camp. Since then it has been developed to offer some of the best adventure facilities in the south.
School camps, churches and community groups use the site throughout the year. The camp also runs its own holiday camps during summer and school holidays. For more information visit www.campcolumba.org.nz.
