Gambling Policy and TAB Venue Policy review

This consultation has now closed. Thanks to everyone who took part. The outcome will be published on this page.

The Council must review its policies relating to gambling and TAB venues every three years.

In 2013 the Council took a ‘sinking lid’ approach. This meant no increase in the number of venues or gaming machines would be approved by the Council. Since the establishment of the sinking lid policy, venues and numbers in the Gore District have been relatively constant.

In 2016 there were seven gambling venues with 85 machines. This compares to 2019 figures, where there’s seven venues with 84 machines. The number of TAB facilities remains at four.

Our staff have reviewed the current policies and visited all premises that have class 4 gaming machines and/or TAB facilities.

As a result staff are not proposing any changes except minor wording adjustments to reflect changes in other legislation.  The policy retains its prime objective of reducing the number of class 4 machines numbers operating in the community over a period of time.

The Council wants your feedback on the draft policy. You can make a submission on our editable submission form.
