Auger problems close pool early
Ongoing issues with the Mataura pool auger has forced the pool’s closure for the season a week earlier than scheduled.
Gore District Council parks and recreation manager Ian Soper said it was going to take about six days to fix the auger and heat the water at the pool after the auger’s failure at the weekend.
“Given the pool was due to close for the season next Sunday (1 May), and there were no guarantees we could get the water temperature up in time, the only option was to close.”
Mr Soper said there have been issues with the feed system throughout the season, and the Council has already spent several thousands of dollars fixing it.
The latest failure has left the auger buried under a bunker full of coal, which will have to be shovelled out so the auger can be accessed. Until then it’s unknown whether it can be repaired or will need to be replaced.
“Either way, we are potentially looking at spending several thousands of dollars more on it.”
Mr Soper said anyone who booked in to use the Mataura pool this week should talk with staff at the Gore pool to transfer their booking.
