Countdown starts to the Santa Parade
The Gore District Santa Parade is less than three months away, so it’s time to start designing floats.
The Parade will be held on Sunday 11 December and will again be followed by Christmas in the Park at the Gore Gardens.
Gore District Council events and promotions coordinator Emma Carlé said she hoped every organisation, club and education facility in the District would enter a float this year.
"It’s a great opportunity to promote your services, it’s free, and fun," she said.
"This is a chance to really let loose and use all that pent up creativity. If you know how to weld, how to sew, even if you’re into body painting, go for it.
"The more creative the floats the better the parade.
"There are great prizes for the best floats and there will be a people’s choice vote this year," Ms Carlé said.
"A float could be a fleet of bicycles, old shopping trollies, cars, trucks or even people on foot, so don’t be put off if you don’t have access to a trailer," Ms Carlé said.
If anyone didn’t have the time or materials to create a float it was possible to borrow floats from the Southland Santa Parade for a fee, she said.
Information will be sent this week to all those who have previously taken part in the parade.
Otherwise entry forms and information can be picked up from the Council’s main office at 29 Bowler Avenue, or downloaded below. Everyone who has a float will need to fill out the health and safety form.
The parade starts at 1.00pm followed by Christmas in the Park at approximately 2.00pm.
