Cycle trails community workshop
Do you want to have your say into the development of cycling, walking or horse riding trails around the Gore District?
If the answer’s yes, then keep Tuesday 7 March free for a community workshop the Gore District cycling, walking and equestrian trails feasibility study.
The feasibility study is well underway, with consultants TRC and Xyst visiting Gore in mid-January to start talking to the community about how to best develop a network of cycling, walking and equestrian trails for the district.
They met with council, industry, user groups and community representatives to gain an understanding of where the current demand for trails in the region comes from, what trails currently exist and how they are being used, and what new trails could be developed to connect and enhance the existing ones.
TRC and Xyst have extensive experience in trail planning and development. The former recently completed the Southland Cycling Strategy for Venture Southland, Invercargill City Council, Southland District Council and Gore District Council.
The community workshop will be held in the Council Chambers from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. At the session the consultants will present their thinking and suggested strategic directions for the feasibility study before further progressing the ideas.
