Have Your Say on Mataura's Future
The Mataura Community Board is inviting people to help shape the future of their town at a public meeting on Wednesday.
Mataura’s Future – Have Your Say is part of the Gore District Council’s community engagement in the lead up to the Long Term Plan. It will be a chance for people from Mataura and the wider Gore District to talk about what they see as the big issues facing the town and how to deal with them.
Mataura Community Board chairman Alan Taylor said the aim of the meeting was not only to inform but also to get input from people.
“Many people in the District have an affinity with Mataura, be it through sport or employment, and will have their idea of what the town could look like in 10 years time.”
It was planned to have the meeting split into focus groups. Each group would be led by a community board member and be given an issue or scenario to discuss, Mr Taylor said.
Topics could include
- Recreational opportunities for Mataura, are they meeting present needs and what role does the Mataura pool play?
- Mataura’s place within the Gore District and how can it compliment the District, should it still be an industrial hub or is there another role for the town?
- Bridge Street versus Main Street – where does future development lie?
Mr Taylor encouraged people to attend the meeting, which will be held in the Mataura community centre, starting at 7.00pm.
