Hearing panel recommends new transmission line goes ahead
A Gore District Council hearing panel has recommended that Transpower New Zealand Ltd's notice of requirement to put up a new transmission line near Gore be confirmed, subject to conditions.
The Council’s consultant planner Keith Hovell said the recommendation comes after a two day hearing and the panel considering further information about the visual impact of the transmission line.
Transpower intends to put in a new transmission line from its substation, on Charlton Road, to the existing 220kV North Makarewa-Three Mile Hill line that passes south of Gore. The work is part of Transpower's Lower South Island Reliability Project and is needed to reinforce supply to Gore and other centres connected to the regional network.
Mr Hovell said Transpower will consider the panel’s recommendation before issuing a decision, which will be open to appeal in the Environment Court by the Council or anyone who made a submission.
Members of the hearing panel were hearing commissioner David Pullar and Crs Nicky Davis and Cliff Bolger.
