Mataura recreational consultation this weekend
If you had $500,000 to spend on developing a unique recreational attraction in Mataura what would you choose?
This is the question the Mataura Community Board wants feedback on this weekend.
The Board has engaged Community Trust of Southland Chief Executive John Prendergast and Sport Southland’s Brendon McDermott to consult with the community to come up with ideas for recreational amenities at Tulloch Park. They are now ready to discuss ideas with the community and get feedback at concept-building sessions on Sunday and Monday. These sessions will be held at Tulloch Park.
Mr Prendergast said the latest work builds on the Gore District Council’s consultation about a year ago in preparation for its 10 year Long Term Plan.
"Working with Visitor Solutions we have come up with some new ideas we want to talk about with the community, as well as hear of anything we may not have thought of."
Some of the new ideas are:
- A walkway that incorporates outdoor fitness equipment and activities
- A Skate/Scooter Park
- An Outdoor Basketball area
- Free form play areas
- Zero-depth Water Park
Mr Prendergast said these were just a starting point as to what may be the best combination of amenities for Mataura.
He encouraged people to attend the sessions to make sure they played a part in shaping their town’s future.
"We would love as many people as possible from Mataura to come along on either day as this will ensure that whatever is decided reflects the voice of the community."
The sessions will be held from 2.00pm to 4.00pm on the Sunday, and 7.00pm to 9.00pm on the Monday.
