NZ Silver Fern rally coming to Gore
Summer in Gore will start with a motoring buzz as the NZ Silver Fern Rally overnights in the District on Thursday 1 December.
It’s the first time the rally has stopped for the night in Gore since it began in 1969.
Approximately 100 drivers and co-drivers, including 18 internationals, plus their support crew are expected for the event; which starts and finishes in Christchurch (27 November to 4 December).
Gore is the southernmost overnight stop, with a local stage being held in the District before vehicles head back to Dunedin.
Gore’s Derek Ayson, Highlands Motorsport Park owner Tony Quinn and 2014 Silver Fern Rally winner Vince Bristow are among the competitors in this year’s event.
Gore District Council Events and Promotions Coordinator Emma Carle said it’s really exciting for Gore to be included as a stopover.
“We’ll do our darndest to make sure the teams have a memorable stopover in Gore and to ensure the public gets a good look at the cars,” Ms Carle said.
“If we do it right, hopefully Gore will become a regular stopover.”
Drivers will arrive just before 5.00pm on Thursday 1 December and depart 8.45am the following day.
“There will be opportunity for people to watch the rally from various vantage points,” Ms Carle said.
More details about the course and opportunities to view the vehicles will be available soon.
