Pool to reopen on Thursday

Update: The reopening of the pool has been rescheduled to 6am Thursday because of issues with getting the water temperature right in the main and leisure pools. Staff have been working around the clock and while the temperature is creeping up, it has been decided to err on the side of caution and push the reopening back a day or so. The Mataura pool will remain open in the meantime.

The maintenance and revamp of the Gore Aquatic Centre has gone really well and staff have been working extra hard over the last few days to have everything ready by this Monday 9 June.

Unfortunately we may have to delay the reopening because issues with the electronic system that controls the plant room means there is the possibility we will not get the water temperature up in time.

We know this must be a disappointment for our many loyal swimmers and we will be working through the weekend in a bid to be open by 6am on Monday. This is just a precautionary notice to let you know the reopening may have to be rescheduled.

We will make a decision by 4pm on Sunday so please check our Facebook pages for the aquatic centre and Council, as well as the website, after that time to find out what’s happening.

We can advise that Ice Sports Southland’s ice skating rink will not be reopening on Monday. The rink's opening has been delayed to wait for the ground to thaw inside the arena. Ice Sports Southland anticipates the rink will open on 23 June.

We look forward to welcoming you back next week.
