Roads get a new top coat
The Gore District Council’s road resurfacing programme will be in top gear over the next couple of weeks.
Two Fulton Hogan crews from Southland and Otago will be laying bitumen over 22.4 kilometres of road in Gore, Mataura and rural areas.
Transport Manager Peter Standring said a number of factors were taken into account when deciding what areas would be resurfaced.
“We look at things like the road’s age, wear and tear, and running repairs we’ve had to undertake.”
The work started this week and is scheduled to take about 18 days, depending on the weather. It is part of the Council’s 2016/17 resurfacing programme, which has a budget of just under $1million.
The areas and/or streets to be resurfaced are:
Gorton Street, Hyde Street, Oreti Street, River Street, Waimea Street, Stratford Street, Anzac Street, Arawa Place, Arawa St, Ardwick Street, Dundas Street, Fairfield Street, Hilbre Avenue, Huron Street, Johnston Street, Kerwood Place, Mary Street, Rautea Street, Vera St, Bannerman Park Access Road, Margaret Street, Martin St, Irk Street, Irwell Street – West, Traford Street – East, Bowler Avenue.
Asquith Street, Carlyle Street, Forth Street, Lorn St – West.
Crawford Road, Kaiwera Road, East Chatton Road, Waikaka Road, Donald Road, Gilchrist Road, Otama Valley Road, Ontario Street, Paterson Road, Waimumu Rd.
