Algae Discharge in Mataura River Near Grasslands Rd

We are advising residents that due to an algae bloom in the oxidation ponds, our wastewater treatment plant is currently discharging algae into the Mataura River.

As a precaution, we advise the public to keep clear of the Mataura River near the discharge on Grasslands Road for 1000m until further notice. The Council is actively managing the situation to minimise environmental impacts and resolve the algae discharge as soon as possible.
