Icicle lights to brighten up Gore's CBD
The Gore District Council is brightening up the central business area in time for the Tussock Country Music Festival.
Over the next week about 700m high quality icicle fairy lights will be put up on both sides of the Main Street, between the Mersey Street/Main Street roundabout and Hokonui Drive/Medway Street/Main Street roundabout.
Lights will also go up on both sides of Irk Street, from Main Street to the Smith City carpark.
Gore District Roading Asset Manager Peter Standring said councillors wanted to add vibrancy to the CBD.
“We thought it would be good to get the lights in place before the inaugural Tussock Country Music Festival, which is set to draw hundreds of visitors to town.”
The Council will cover all costs associated with the lights - installation, running costs and maintenance. The lights cost about $18,000 and would be funded from parks and reserves budgets.
The lights will automatically come on when the street lights activate.
The Council plans to have all the lights in place by next weekend (29 May).
