Helpful guide for older people in our community
Older people in the Gore District now have a useful guide to help them find services and social connections available in their area.
Living Well in Later Years - A Guide to Local Services and Connections for Older People has been developed by Ready for Living, a community-led project involving the Gore District Council and P H Vickery Trust.
Ready for Living coordinator Kylie Aitken said the booklet was designed in response to many older people not knowing all their options in the community and choices to combat loneliness.
The information in the booklet aims to support older people in their daily lives. Sections include medical services, support for living at home, social opportunities, and community organisations.
“We have had great feedback from organisations about the booklet, and praise for identifying a gap and taking the initiative to fill it,” she said.
The booklet will be updated annually – “the make sure it’s as current as possible, we will need people to let us know of any changes”.
The booklet is available on the Council’s website or Ready for Living website readyforliving.co.nz. It’s also at several locations in the District including the Gore Library, Mataura Service Centre, Gore Visitors Centre, Connected Eastern Southland.
