By-election Nominations Open
Nominations for the Gore District Council by-election, caused by the recent resignation of a councillor, open tomorrow (19 April).
The by-election is to fill the vacancy in the Gore Ward created when long-standing councillor Bret Highsted resigned.
Nominations are open until 12 noon, Wednesday 17 May. If more than one eligible nomination is received, a postal voting process, using the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system, will take place between Wednesday 21 June and Thursday 13 July.
Gore District Council Electoral Officer Anthony Morton said candidates need to be nominated by two electors from the Gore ward.
“However, candidates can live anywhere in the country as long as they’re a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the Parliamentary electoral roll.”
Nomination forms and by-election information are available on the Council’s website www.goredc.govt.nz/council/elections and from its main office.
The preliminary roll for the by-election is available at the Council’s main office and Gore Library.
Residential electors may enrol or amend their enrolment details on the electoral roll:
- Online at www.vote.nz
- By texting your name and address to 3676 to get a form sent to you
- By calling 0800 36 76 56 to ask for a form to be sent to you

People can apply to register as a ratepayer elector by filling out the non-resident ratepayer elector enrolment form. These are available at the Council’s main office and Gore Library. Forms must be returned to the electoral officer before 4:00pm Wednesday 17 May.
