An Update From The Mataura Community Board
Your Mataura community board members are working on some exciting projects for Mataura.
Here’s what we talked about at our most recent hui/meeting.
Truck Parking in Mataura
The board is NOT going to prevent trucks from stopping in our town. However, we are concerned about large vehicles parking overnight in residential areas and Coster Park, which we are looking at redeveloping.
We are working with all parties involved to find a good solution for our truck drivers. Any changes to parking will be part of the Council’s Roading Bylaw review and we encourage you all to get involved and have your say.
Pool
The pool is in a complete state of disrepair and holding back the development of Tulloch Park, which many residents want finished.
We acknowledge this subject is upsetting to some of the community, including board members. Sadly, the pool has to be demolished. However, we are working with the Council and school to look at rebuilding a new modern community pool that is cheaper and more efficient to run.
There are no plans to park trucks at the pool site or Tulloch Park.
Funding
New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited’s (NZAS) has established a $2 million Community Development Fund to support investment in community and infrastructure projects in Southland.
The development of a new medical hub in McQueen Avenue is one project we have been working on with NZAS. We have had no discussions with the company about the pool’s demolition.
