Urgent Inspection For Gore's Stormwater Network
The Gore District Council is to urgently investigate its stormwater network in areas known to flood during intense rainfall.
Heavy rainfall on 4 November saw some Gore streets once again subjected to surface flooding from overloaded stormwater pipes.
3 Waters Operations Manager Aaron Green said the rainfall was not as intense or prolonged as September’s flooding but still caused issues.
“We appreciate these events can cause anxiety for some residents after the recent state of emergency.
“The investigation will ensure our stormwater pipes are as clear as they can be, given their age, because we’re likely to get more weather-related events over the summer.”
Tomorrow there will be a vacuum truck and water blaster with a root cutter checking and clearing sumps at several Gore locations, including St Peter’s College, which was worst affected in September.
Staff will also put a CCTV unit down some pipes to see if there are any broken pipes or blockages.
The streets scheduled for inspection are:
- Pukaki Street
- Hokonui Drive
- Hamilton Street/Tui Street
- Kakapo Street
- Norfolk Street
- Ashton Street
- Stratford Street
- Landslip Valley Road
