Dog Control Policy & Bylaw Consultation
Have your say about Our Dog Control Policy and Bylaw.
We review our Dog Control Policy and Bylaw every 10 years to make sure they continue to meet the needs of our community. This review process is an important opportunity to ensure that the rules around dog ownership are in line with what our residents expect and need.
Our Dog Control Policy and Bylaw play a vital role in promoting responsible dog ownership and ensuring that everyone can enjoy safe, accessible public spaces. We aim to balance the need for community safety with the freedom of dogs to exercise and socialise.
Why Do We Have a Dog Control Policy and Bylaw?
These documents are designed to create a safe environment for all residents, especially in areas that are frequently used by children. The policy helps us minimise the danger, distress, and nuisance caused by uncontrolled dogs, while the bylaw sets the legal framework for where dogs can go, how they should be housed, and how nuisance behaviour is managed.
What Are We Proposing?
We’re proposing some small changes to make the policy and bylaw easier to understand. These changes include clearer guidelines on disability assist dogs, clarity around dog exercise and leash control areas, and some minor technical amendments to improve consistency and readability.
