Future Plans for Gore Aviary Peafowl Underway
For the past 18 months the Gore District Council has had numerous reports from members of our community concerning the well-being of the peacock at the Gore Aviary. In response, we have worked closely with a vet who has assessed the birds’ general health, condition, and enclosures.
The investigation revealed that the peafowl require a larger, more sheltered enclosure with more natural light, foraging space, and green grass to support their health and well-being. Currently, the existing enclosure is only half the size recommended for a bird of their size.
As a result, we are actively seeking a safe new home for the peafowl while we explore long-term solutions.
We understand that the community has a deep affection for the peafowl at the aviary, with many fond memories associated with them. We are committed to ensuring that we make the best decision for both the birds and the people who care about them.
