Parks Week
Parks Week is held across New Zealand and Australia every March, to celebrate the vital role parks play in creating liveable cities and thriving communities.
The Gore District is well known for its beautiful parks and reserves, so each year, we highlight a different location to celebrate Parks Week with a free community event!
From scavenger hunts to playground fun, every park featured has its own distinct theme and celebration. With free giveaways and creative ways to explore our parks and gardens, this is a fun-filled time for the whole family to enjoy.
Parks Week 2025 will be held from Monday 3 to Sunday 9 March. The festivities will kick off with a fun-filled day in Hamilton Park on Sunday 2 March, in collaboration with Children's Day. From 1:00 - 4:00pm, the park will come alive with FREE kids' activities, including face painting, pony rides, magic shows, and train rides. There’s something for the whole family to enjoy! Mark your calendars and join us for a fantastic day out at Hamilton Park.
All week long, families can also enjoy a self-guided scavenger hunt in Hamilton Park. Students from Maruawai College have created adorable dog figures, which will be hidden throughout the park. Pick up a scavenger hunt map from Gore Pool (20 Wayland St.) Gore Library (10C Ardwick St.) or Mataura Library (1 Bridge Street), find all the dogs and write down their names, and enter the draw to win great prizes like a disc golf set, B&B Sports vouchers sponsored by Active Southland, and native plants.
