Apply for a Building Consent
Fire Fighting Water Supply Requirements
Builders, developers, and homeowners need to consider water storage for firefighting for new dwellings that do not have access to a sufficient reticulated water supply.
Building consent applications
For new dwellings not connected to a sufficient reticulated water supply, building consent applications must include a site/floor plan approved by FENZ.
Download the checklist below, fill it in then email it to [email protected] along with your site plan & floor plan.
Once approved, these documents are ready to be submitted with your building consent application.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) has put together guidelines. It's helpful if people also read the Firefighting Water Supplies Code of Practice.

Please note: The FENZ guidelines refer to the Invercargill City Council’s District Plan. The details in this section match the requirements of our council.
