Wheelie Bin Service
The Gore District Council has a kerbside wheelie bin collection service for households and businesses, in Gore and Mataura.
The red lidded bin is for household waste, plastic, paper, steel cans, sanitary waste, food waste etc.
The yellow lidded bin is for glass only.
It is free to dispose of a small trailer of greenwaste at the Gore and Mataura transfer stations.
There is cardboard and aluminium recycling bins at the Gore Transfer Station and behind the Mataura community centre, McQueen Avenue. Cardboard can also be left at the Pakeke Lions North Gore depot.
If you would like to request a bin or report a lost/found bin, you can do so through our Do It Online portal.
Collection Days
Red lidded bin will be collected weekly, for three consecutive weeks. The yellow lidded bin will be collected every fourth week.

Kerbside collections will be collected one day later due to the Easter Public Holidays:
- Monday 1 April - will be collected Tuesday 2 April
- Tuesday 2 April - will be collected Wednesday 3 April
- Wednesday 3 April - will be collected Thursday 4 April
- Thursday 4 April - will be collected Friday 5 April
What is WasteNet Southland?
WasteNet Southland is a joint initiative of the Gore District Council, Invercargill City Council and Southland District Council. It provides a coordinated approach to recycling services and the delivery of solid waste collection within Southland.
Rural properties
If you live in rural areas, there is a privately operated wheelie bin collection service available. Or household rubbish and green waste can be taken to the Gore transfer station, in Toronto Street.
